(Dunya News) – While the past few days have witnessed a politically charged environment in Punjab with members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz having initially threatened and later publicly announcing their resignations as legislators in the Punjab Assembly following the recent Khatma-e-Nabuwwat conference in Faisalabad, the Punjab Assembly secretariat has so far not received any resignations.
Despite the initial hullabaloo over resignations, there has been a deafening silence following the announcement as the speaker has yet to be formally notified of any resignation.
Speaking on the issue, speaker of the PA Rana Muhammad Iqbal said that he had not received any resignation or information from any of the members regarding their resignations. He said unless members of the Punjab Assembly submit and verify their resignations before him in person, they shall not be entertained. Among those who had announced their resignations include Maulana Muhammad Rehmat Ullah, Muhammad Khan Baloch and Pir Nizamuddin Sialvi.
Speaker Iqbal added that resignations that are submitted voluntarily shall be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan following their acceptance by the speaker for further proceedings.
